The first in the collection is a pair of percussion quartets at elementary to intermediate standard and the 24 page, 7MB download, is formatted at A4 size for printing or screening.
Pencil Panorama
Inspired by the view from Alkborough in North Lincolnshire where the Trent and Ouse meet the Humber. The skies over the Yorkshire Wolds, the water and the mudflats inspiring this soundscape for percussion quartet of tam tam and finger cymbals, timpani (4), suspended cymbals and bass drum.
Drum Parade
One of the first percussion quartets published by Peter R. Birkby in 1985 from the Ten Quartets collection. An idea for a marching procession motivated this composition for keyboard percussion (glockenspiel, xylophone or vibraphone), timpani (3), snare drum and bass drum with suspended cymbal.
Each quartet can be performed as a separate entity and they have been arranged with the option of being performed one after the other with the final pause in Pencil Panorama leading directly into the first bar of Drum Parade. Individual durations are: Pencil Panorama 3'30" (approx) and Drum Parade 2'10".
