Try A Coping Experiment Worksheet
Try a Coping Experiment | Coping Skills Practice & Reflection Worksheet
Help students discover which coping strategies work for them through a simple before-and-after experiment. This worksheet encourages students to choose a strategy, predict what might happen, try it, and reflect on what they notice.
The focus is on curiosity and learning, giving students room to recognize small changes without pressure to feel better immediately.
Students will explore:
What they are feeling before and after trying a coping strategy.
Their emotional intensity using ratings out of 10.
What they predict the strategy will do.
What actually changes or stays the same.
Whether the strategy is something they would want to try again.
What’s included: One black-and-white worksheet featuring a side-by-side comparison, emotion intensity ratings, reflection prompts, and seven coping options: slow breathing, music, movement, water or food, quiet space, talking to someone, and writing.
Use with middle and high school students during individual counseling, small groups, or social-emotional learning activities. Pair it with hands-on coping practice to help students move from knowing about a skill to testing it in their own lives.
