Samuel ROUSSEAU | Moderato | Clarinet Quintet

Samuel-Alexandre Rousseau (1853–1904) was a French Romantic composer, conductor, and teacher, best remembered for his operas, sacred works, and organ music. He studied under César Franck and François Bazin, won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1878, and later became choirmaster at Sainte-Clotilde in Paris.

Rousseau represents the late-Romantic French tradition, bridging sacred organ repertoire with operatic drama. His works, though less performed today, reflect the influence of Franck’s harmonic richness and the lyrical French style of the late 19th century.
