As the Sun Arises is a simple, reflective sacred choral piece inspired by the imagery and spirituality of St Patrick’s Breastplate.

The music follows the movement of a day — from the first light of morning, through the struggles and encounters of the day, to the peace of evening and the promise of life beyond it.

At its heart is the prayerful idea of Christ being present before us, beneath us, and in every person we meet:

Christ before me walking,

Christ beneath my feet,

Christ in every stranger,

Every soul I meet.

The piece is deliberately simple and accessible, with a single-line vocal melody supported by piano or organ. It would suit church choirs, worship, school and community choirs, or simply anyone looking for a gentle piece of sacred music to sing.

I am making As the Sun Arises available as a free download. There is no charge for the music.

Need it in a different key?

The melody currently reaches a top G. If that is uncomfortable for your choir, or you would simply prefer the piece in a different key, please contact me. I will be happy to provide it in a suitable key.
