"Travel, according to Madame De Stael, is one of the “ sad pleasures ” of our life. But if the gifted author of “ Corinne ” were alive to-day, she would have to revise that opinion. Whether on steamer or on railway, the traveller is nowadays made as comfortable as modern art and skill can invent; and, as a consequeuce, everyone travels.
