I love to knit cables but haven’t designed heavily with them in the past—something about creating multiple charts for various sizes takes a bit of the joy out of all those cable crosses!
This sweater, though, just demanded to be brought to life, charts and all. It is inspired by photos of one of my favorite actors, Diego Luna, blessing us with his perfect smile while relaxing in a cozy cabled pullover. Though the basic cables are similar, once it was on the needles, this sweater became something else entirely—a cardigan, most obviously, with saddle shoulders, ¾ length sleeves, moderate waist shaping, and a traveling motif on the back that makes it stand out from traditional Aran sweaters. Diego is worked in Julie Asselin’s Nurtured, a quintessential autumn yarn with squish, structure and softly heathered hues. Rhinebeck sweater? I think so!
