In my daydreams I am incredibly rich and spend summers sailing around the Chesapeake on my gorgeous yacht. No matter that I have zero sailing experience. In these dreams, I’m always dressed like Rachel McAdams in Wedding Crashers: vibrant headscarf, gauzy pants and the perfect white cotton summer sweater. After spending years looking for such a sweater, I finally decided to design one myself. This is a sweater for cool summer evenings, moonlit walks on a breezy beach and, yes, afternoons on the yacht with the wind whipping through your hair. It’s knit at a loose gauge in sport weight yarn, so it’s light and airy, and features an easy-to- memorize stitch pattern.

Finished bust circumference: 33.5 (38.5, 42, 46.5, 50.5)“.

Yarn: Mrs Crosby Carpet Bag, 80% Superwash Merino Wool, 20% Silk; 240yds/100g: Hot Pimiento, 5 (5, 6, 6, 7) skeins.

Yarn: Knit Picks Shine Sport, 60% pima cotton, 40% modal; 110yds/50g: Cream, 9 (10, 11, 12, 14) skeins.

Needles: Size 6 (4 mm) 24” circular needle; size 7 (4.5 mm) 24” circular needle; size 8 (5 mm) 24” circular needle. Adjust needle sizes if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Gauge
20 sts and 24 rows = 4” in Knot Stitch Pattern on size 8 (5 mm) needles.
