Juneteenth reminds us that freedom can be declared before it is fully known. On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, received the announcement that they were free. The truth of freedom had already been declared, but the knowledge of that freedom had been delayed, resisted, and hidden.

This short devotional connects the history of Juneteenth with the spiritual journey of living free in Christ. In Jesus, freedom has already been declared, but we still have to learn how to walk out of fear, shame, confusion, old patterns, and anything that tries to pull us back into bondage.
