LG Twins and Doosan Bears to Use Jamsil Main Stadium
LG and Doosan to Use Jamsil Main Stadium as Home While Building Dome Stadium… Up to 30,000 Seats
2027-2031 5-season home stadium use… Additional pedestrian paths and entrances to be secured at the dome stadium from 2032… Seoul City: “Spectator safety is the top priority”
The professional baseball teams LG Twins and Doosan Bears will play home games at Jamsil Main Stadium for five seasons from 2027 to 2031.
The existing Jamsil Stadium will begin construction in 2027 and open as a new 'dome stadium' in March 2032.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 9th that it has decided to use Jamsil Main Stadium as a replacement stadium while building a new dome stadium on the site of the existing Jamsil Stadium. 토토사이트 순위
The two professional baseball teams will use Jamsil Stadium until the 2026 season and play at the replacement stadium for a total of five seasons from 2027 to 2031.
The Jamsil Main Stadium game seats will be constructed on the 1st and 2nd floors with a total of 18,000 seats.
Originally, Jamsil Main Stadium could accommodate up to 60,000 people, but it was adjusted considering the average number of spectators for professional baseball games.
Since the area around Gangnam COEX and Jamsil Sports Complex is being developed into an international exchange complex (MICE), the movement paths are limited, and safety issues could arise if a large number of people gather at once.
However, the city decided to expand the capacity to a maximum of 34,000 seats by opening up the third-floor seats for major games and postseasons, assuming that spectator safety is confirmed in the future.
In order to bring the distance between the stands and the stadium closer, infield event seats will also be installed.
Kim Seung-won, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Balanced Development Headquarters, said, “On average, the number of visitors to Jamsil Stadium on weekdays is 17,000, and the existing Jamsil Stadium has a seating capacity of 23,000,” and “It is not a major problem because it can accommodate up to 30,000 people during major games.”
The two clubs and the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) plan to systematically establish spectator safety management measures and operating systems and thoroughly protect spectator safety in consultation with the city.
In order to ensure smooth viewing, the route for spectators has also been expanded.
First, for the safety of spectators at Jamsil Main Stadium, the city has established a west entrance/exit toward Bongeun Bridge, and has adjusted the construction area near the north of Jamsil Sports Complex to secure an additional east entrance/exit toward Baekjegobun-ro.
The width of the sidewalk at the west entrance/exit will also be widened, and a separate pedestrian passage will be installed on the east entrance/exit to separate it from the underground section of Olympic-daero and the construction area of the Jamsil Sports and MICE complex development project.
As Seoul City will use Jamsil Main Stadium as a replacement baseball stadium, it has decided to replace the track and field and soccer field with a professional baseball field in accordance with the KBO manual.
Some indoor spaces will be remodeled into dugouts, player support spaces, etc.
It will cost 30-40 billion won to build a replacement stadium, and the city plans to discuss cost-saving measures with the two teams, such as adjusting commercial advertising fees.
The replacement stadium will be designed and completed between March next year and February 2026, undergo remodeling work until the end of 2026, and open in March 2027.
After Jamsil Dome Stadium opens, Jamsil Main Stadium, which was used as the replacement stadium, will be restored to its original form.
Since October of last year, the city of Seoul has discussed alternative stadiums through five TF meetings, on-site inspections, and working-level consultations with the KBO and the two clubs.
At one point, a plan to share Mokdong and Gocheok Stadium was discussed, but reflecting the clubs’ opinion that Jamsil was their preferred stadium, the city of Seoul decided to use Jamsil Main Stadium as the alternative stadium at the TF meeting on the 2nd.
Jamsil Dome Stadium will open in March 2032.
Jamsil Dome Stadium is part of the ‘Jamsil Sports and MICE Complex Development Project’ being carried out with private investment.
The city is planning a closed-type stadium with over 30,000 seats that can host international games.
KBO Commissioner Huh Gu-yeon said, “On behalf of the baseball community, I would like to express my gratitude to the people who worked together with the city of Seoul to solve this difficult problem,” and added, “We will do our best to create a safe and pleasant viewing environment for baseball fans by cooperating with the clubs, the city of Seoul, and related organizations.”
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said, "Jamsil Main Stadium is being used as a replacement baseball stadium, but the word temporary will be meaningless as it will be built with the safety of citizens as the top priority and the convenience of spectators as the focus."
He added, "We will also quickly and safely push forward with the construction of Jamsil Dome Stadium that can meet the expectations of baseball fans."
