Raindrops on Roses Shawl

The Raindrops on Roses Shawl combines so many of my favorite things: gorgeous yarn, simple body, exquisite lace border, and my new favorite - beads!

The shawl is worked from the top down to form a gorgeous and easy-to-wear crescent. It uses only simple stitches, making it beginner friendly, and has just a touch of beads on the very edge, so it’s the perfect way to try beading for the first time!

Yarn and Other Materials

• 0-8+ stitch markers (optional)
• 3.5mm hook
• 1.25mm steel hook or other beading tool
• 5g/100 size 6/0 seed beads
• 800yds/732m/200g fingering weight yarn

The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn, but can easily be worked in anything from laceweight to aran. The shawl is designed to work well with solids, speckles, and lightly variegated yarns - the stitch used for the body shows off color beautifully.

The pattern calls for approximately 5g/100 size 6/0 seed beads. The number of beads will vary with any pattern adjustments made. If adjusting the yarn weight, adjust the bead size accordingly. The shawl is designed to use beads that coordinate with the yarn color, but works well with sharply contrasting beads, too.

Construction

The pattern is worked in one piece from the top down to form a crescent shawl that curves upwards. Beads are added as you go.

Overview of the Finished Object

The Raindrops on Roses Shawl is a crescent shaped shawl. The body features a simple, mildly textured stitch that repeats throughout. The edging is open and lacy, and the very last row has minimal beading.

Printing

Both a regular and printer friendly version are available! The pattern includes large color photos on the first page and the last three pages. The printer-friendly version has only one photo on the cover page and less spacing in the instructions so the pattern takes up fewer pages and is smaller to download. Close up images and photo tutorials are not included in the printer-friendly pattern. If you are working from the printer-friendly version and are having trouble with a pattern, I strongly recommend checking the regular version. The text will be easier to read and it may have more detailed instructions and additional notes.

Accessibility

The main pattern pdf is designed to be screen reader compatible. The text is all in one column and headers are formatted according to the style sheet. The pattern is written out and the images have descriptive alt text. Please note that the pattern uses standard abbreviations (like dc, sc, ch, and st) rather than fully writing out each word. Size information is provided in a table, but is also listed in text form. Please note that the pattern has multiple sizes. When relevant, instructions for larger sizes are given in parentheses. For example, sc 5 (10, 15, 20). Please note that the pattern has nested repeats, which may make it more challenging to follow with a screen reader.

The written instructions are color-blind accessible and do not use any colors except black and white. The chart uses multiple colors to indicate which row is which and where the increases are.
