Midnight & Macarons

All Kaela Ashwind wants this winter is a full tavern, a warm oven, a peppermint mocha, and her dragon asleep by the hearth.

But instead her baby hearth dragon, Cinder, answers a summons from beneath the Crystal Mountains. At the bottom of the climb waits an ancient dragon bakery with twenty-four cold ovens and guardian constructs that still think it’s open for business. Midnight is there too: a wary black dragon who doesn’t speak, doesn’t trust strangers, and remembers a pastry nobody alive knows how to bake.

And every night Cinder curls up in the old nursery, Kaela has to wonder whose home it is.

Kaela has her found family beside her: Gareth with his laminated itineraries, Dana with her loot boxes, and one very serious kitten paladin. What Kaela doesn’t have is the courage to ask the question growing louder with every recipe they recover: what if Cinder never comes home?
