Life With Imani in Kenya is a series of stories written from Rose’s memories of life in her country of birth; Kenya, Africa. Although her children were born in the United States, they always ask about life in Africa. And so Rose decided to write her stories and share them with children everywhere. The series is told through the eyes of Imani, a young girl who lives in a small village in Kenya. Imani sees magic in the simplest things. Each day she finds more to appreciate while observing the sheer simplicity of life; the potential powers that lay within the smallest things that inevitably make them uniquely great.

The Simple Things Around Me is the first book in this series. Here we walk with Imani and her mother to the village market. Along the way Imani notices life’s somewhat hidden happenings, and wonders how it would feel to be each of the phenomena she sees. Soon she realizes that these phenomena are very similar to the care her mother gives, that her love is as powerful yet as simple. And so she decides - if there’s one thing she really wants to be, it’s her mother; sharing love each day as easily as the simplest things go about theirs.
