Today was a day of small victories for Carrie. Lying in bed, she started with gentle stretches, boldly folding her legs backward toward her shoulders—an unusual but deeply comforting sensation. Buoyed by that success, she carefully moved across the room using a chair for support. Then, with quiet determination, she let go of the crutches and tried to walk unaided.
