Connecting the Biblical Narrative to Broken and Redeemed Relationships
One’s relationship with God offers guidance and wisdom to our relationships within the Church. It is wise to look to the Bible for insight when faced with relational brokenness in the church. Authors of the Bible, inspired by God, have never shied away from difficult problems, descriptions or ideas. Without fully realizing a connection,
social work researchers (Pence, 1982), developed difficult descriptions of relationship abuse and encouraging descriptions of healthy relationships and represented them in the Power and Control Wheel and the Relationship Equality Wheel. These wheels, which Safe Haven Ministries uses in our trainings, have numerous connections to the Biblical narrative. With this booklet, our purpose is to help people in churches see how connected the shalom work of the Church and
Safe Haven Ministries actually is. Once you see the connection, this booklet is an invitation for you to prayerfully consider with your community about participating in Creating a Safe Haven with your local congregation. Our checklist at the end of this booklet will help guide you if you’ve discerned a need or even a calling to join in this shalom work.
