Fritze - 20 Characteristic Etudes for Tuba

A classic collection of musical and technically rewarding studies for tuba. These etudes have been well known amongst tuba players for many years, with some becoming favourites in their own right amongst students and on social media— particularly the brilliant 2nd etude based on Bach's Cello Suite.

I love these studies and wanted to make them easier for players in the UK to discover. They offer much more than straightforward technical practice, developing style, articulation, flexibility, phrasing and musicianship while still feeling like proper pieces of music.

Quite simply, I think more tuba players in the UK should know these. They’re characterful (clue is in the name), enjoyable to play and a brilliant addition to any serious tuba player’s practice library.

Fritze himself says the etudes were written with advanced college/professional tubists in mind, but specifically notes that intermediate players can use some of them successfully at slower tempi. One bibliography grades the whole collection Grade IV and makes the same point: less experienced players can work on them if the tempi are adapted.
