This crazy jumper can be worn either side as front, it’s relaxed and elegant all the time and can be used to dress up some jeans or worn over a dress or skirt. However you’d like to style it, this classic but funky piece is ideal for showcasing a hand-dyed yarn.
There are no standard sizes for the pattern, as this jumper is designed to be made in YOUR size. The pattern comes with an attached spreadsheet to do those pesky calculations for you. You also get to choose which style/method of construction best suits you as this can be knit from the centre outwards or from bottom up. The jumper is knit both flat and in the round, with the bottom half in the round and the top half knit flat, then seamed together at the sides before grafting. The grafting can be eliminated in the centre out version, if you prefer to knit the top half first.
A large percentage of wool is recommended for this pattern, as it helps the garment keep it’s structure, though blends are definitely useable. Knitting in fingering weight / sport gives the garment a lot more drape.
Yarn: Fingering, Sport or DK weight yarn, yardage varies based on the size being made, for a medium size of around 38-40 1000-1200 metres are used, so always plan for a little more than you need especially if you plan to make changes by lengthening the sleeves or adding a decorative band to the wrap side.
Gauge: 21 sts & 32.5 rows = 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch
Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) circular 40’’ needle (use the size needles that gets gauge)
US 3 (3.25) DPNS (optional for sleeve additions)
Notions: Scrap yarn or spare needle to hold stitches,
stitch markers, tapestry needle.
