Salvation From Our King - Christian Lyric Video

“Salvation from Our King” is a new congregational setting based on Jupiter Hammon’s 1760 hymn-poem “An Evening Thought: Salvation by Christ, with Penitential Cries.” Hammon was the first published African American poet. The text overflows with hope, repentance, and confidence in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.

This version reshapes the original language into a simple verse–chorus hymn that keeps Hammon’s central theme: salvation comes by Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, who brings redemption to everyone who trusts in His holy Word. The repeated chorus, “Dear Jesus, we would fly to Thee… Salvation from our King,” gives space for heartfelt response and corporate prayer.

Use this song in worship services around themes of repentance, grace, and Christ the King—especially during Lent, Holy Week, or Reign of Christ Sunday. It can work as a congregational hymn or as a special item for reflection and altar ministry.
