This Watercolor Pineapple Art Lesson is a bright summer art project that combines drawing, marker techniques and watercolor painting. Students draw a pineapple, add detailed texture with marker, and then explore wet-on-wet watercolor, color blending and paint splatter to create a loose, expressive background.

It is designed for Grades 3 to 6 and introduces watercolor in a fun, low-pressure way. Students loosen up and experiment, including drips and splats, while following a structured, easy-to-teach process.

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN

Students draw a pineapple with geometric texture patterns, add bold outlines, and then let paint drip, blend and move across wet paper. Along the way they practice wet-on-wet painting, blending and layering, marker and watercolor resist, texture and pattern drawing, color mixing, and the elements of art: line, shape, color, space, texture, form and value.

Project the steps for the class, demonstrate techniques live, or give independent learners printed guides. Each step has visual examples and written directions. It suits summer art, watercolor units, sub plans, homeschool art, end-of-year projects and mixed media lessons.
