My Life Islands A Child Wellbeing & Values-Based Conversation Tool
My Life Islands — A Child Wellbeing & Values-Based Conversation Tool
A strengths-based, ACT-informed wellbeing activity for children aged 7–14
My Life Islands helps children talk about what matters most to them — not just what's going wrong. Informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a well-evidenced psychological approach that focuses on values, meaning, and committed action, it uses 8 illustrated life areas (Family, Friends, School, Feelings, Me, Fun, Body & Energy, and Goals & Adventure) to help children rate how things are going and choose which islands they want to explore further.
The goal is not the numbers. The goal is the conversation.
What's included (7-page PDF):
- Page 1: The main Life Islands wellbeing map — all 8 islands rated 1–5, total score out of 40
- Pages 2–4: Explore My Island — three copies of the values exploration sheet, covering what matters, what gets in the way, what helps, one small step, and looking ahead
- Pages 5–7: Full adult and professional guide — scoring, tracking over time, conversation prompts, and safeguarding reminders
Designed for:
- Clinicians, therapists and psychologists to use in session
- School counsellors, SENCOs and teaching staff
- Parents and carers as a home check-in tool
- Suitable for ages 7–14; can also be used with older young people in clinical and therapeutic settings where the child-friendly format is appropriate
This tool is not a diagnostic instrument, a screening tool, or a deficit checklist. It is a conversation opener — strengths-based, child-led, and values-informed.
Print once and photocopy, or print fresh each time.
