Air News Yearbook Vol. 2 (1944)
Air News Yearbook Vol. 2
Edited by Phillip Andrews
Duell, Sloan and Pearce, New York 1944
To be complete, the acknowledgments for this book would necessarily extend over a dozen pages, would embrace hundreds of overseas and domestic photographers who serve anonymously in the military forces and picture services. So only a handful of the men who contributed to this volume can be noted here. For their special cooperation on U. S. Army photographs and text, the editor is particularly indebted to Lt. Col. Nathaniel F. Silsbee, Major Winston Allard, Capt. Robert McAndrews, and Sgt. William S. Friedman of the U.S. Army Air Forces, while Comdr. E. John Long, Lt. Comdr. Walter H. Neff, and Major Donald Kehoe deserve major credit for the presentation on U. S. Naval aviation. Similarly, the factual and pictorial coverage of Royal Air Force and Fleet Air Arm activities would have been impossible without the special assistance of G. Grafton Green of the British Ministry of Information and Miss Joyce Leigh of the British Information Services. Special credit must also be given to Michael B. Drayson of British Combine, Max Peter Haas of European Photos, and Charles Rikon of Sovfoto for supplying photographs from a dozen war fronts, and to Rudy Arnold, Peter M. Bowers, Hans Groenhoff, William Larkins, and the late Harold Kulick for excellent picturization of American plane types. And to John Paul Andrews, Martin Caidin, John C. Gasman, Janet Lahey, and Jacqueline Wilion must go the final credit for this book—for it was their efforts which brought together pictures and facts from a thousand sources to make Air News Yearbook Volume 2 a reality.
