Annabella loved her boyfriend Burt, even though he was a bit overweight. He always made her laugh with his goofy grin and playful pranks. Their relationship had been going strong for a couple years now.

One day, Annabella discovered a mysterious app called "Shrinker" online. The description said it would allow her to shrink objects or people down to a tiny size with just a few clicks. Intrigued, she downloaded it.

Annabella decided to test it out on Burt while he was taking a nap. She opened the app, tapped her phone screen, and Burt rapidly began to shrink! Down, down, down he went, until he was the size of a tiny ant, no more than an inch tall. Annabella was amazed it really worked!

She scooped up mini-Burt and put him in a glass jar on her nightstand. When he woke up, he was terrified being so small. Annabella promised she'd return him to normal size soon. For now, this was her fun secret, shrinking her silly boyfriend.

"No, no, of course not Mom! Come on in." Annabella replied. Marjorie walked in, heading for the living room. Suddenly, CRUNCH! Underneath her wooden heeled clog, she had stepped right on the tiny glass jar, crushing mini-Burt in an instant. Annabella gasped in horror.

"Oh my god, Mom! You just killed Burt!" Annabella blurted out. "He was shrunk down to a tiny size by this app and you crushed him! He's dead!"

Marjorie's eyes went wide. "Annabella, what are you talking about? I stepped on what? Shrank who?" She turned and looked at the flattened spot on the floor, seeing the miniscule fragments that had been Burt just moments ago.

"You...shrunk your boyfriend down to the size of a bug...and I killed him with my shoe...I can't believe this." Marjorie said in shock. "What were you thinking, Annabella? This is insane!"

"I...I'm so sorry Mom! I didn't mean for this to happen!" Annabella cried. "I just wanted to see if the app worked! Burt was fine with it, I swear! He was going to be okay, I would've changed him back, but then you came over and...and..." She burst into tears.

Marjorie sighed heavily. "I'm sorry too honey. I had no idea he was there. This is just...wow. Okay, let's figure out what to do here. We can't tell anyone about this. They'd think we're crazy."

"I know," Annabella sniffled. "Let's just...clean this up and pretend it never happened. Like Burt was never here."

The two women got some paper towels and wiped up the remnants of their shrunken family member. Marjorie took the rest of his normal sized clothes and flushed them down the toilet to avoid suspicion.

They had a heavy heart, but agreed this awful event would just have to be their dark secret now. Annabella vowed to never use that crazy shrink app again. She had gotten her wish to miniaturize Burt, but the consequences were far too terrible.

Burt's family would never know what happened to him. Just that one day, he went to visit Annabella and was never seen again. A sad mystery.
