Rivers Casino Shenectady Celebrates 5th Anniversary
Rivers Casino & Resort Shenectady will celebrate its fifth anniversary this Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022. The first time Rivers opened its doors to excited casino game fans across the metropolitan area and beyond was five years ago, on Feb. 8, 2017. Rivers will also celebrate its fifth anniversary with a $5 food and beverage special, gift card gifts, and more.

Rivers is celebrating its fifth anniversary with $5 food and beverage specials, including domestic draft beer, at Van Slick, Flipt and Johnny To Go, a Teatto and Jack Daniels cocktail at Van Slick and Landing Bar, two slices of cheese pizza at Johnny To Go, and a crisp Buffalo Fried Chicken sandwich at Flipt. They are served during regular store hours while supplies last.
In addition, 20 guests will be randomly selected to win a $25 Rivers gift card every Thursday between noon and 8 p.m. during the month of February. In addition, during the $20,000 Birthday Bucks giveaway, guests who actively play with Rush Rewards cards will be able to win $1,000 in slot plays every Friday between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. A total of 20 guests will win during the month.

Rivers pledged to invest $300 million in Schenectady and revitalize polluted industrial brown fields. To date, the company has invested more than $330 million and turned the property into an economic catalyst that helps open up Schenectady's shore to citizens and tourists.
Rivers has invested a total of more than $550 million in Mohawk Harbor, including urban residential housing. This is the largest coastal development in upstate New York.
Rivers helped create nearly $100 million in new infrastructure and private investment near the port of Mohawk.
Rivers said it will create 1,000 jobs. This commitment has been exceeded, including more than 700 union positions. Currently, there are 853 closures since COVID-19, and it is growing. The casino offers good pay and benefits (including healthcare and 401,000 people) and a career path in the gaming and hospitality industries to a diverse workforce that provides more than $43 million in wages to the region. Rivers also offers free job training, including 20 dealer academies, since it opened.
Rivers pays $4 million a year in property taxes. Rivers is the only casino in the state that pays full property taxes. In fact, he pays more property taxes than the other three casinos combined.
Rivers paid the full $5 million mortgage record tax. He also paid the full sales tax on all materials used to build and equip casinos. Both the city and county received $2.5 million when they paid the original casino license fee.
To date, Rivers has paid more than $220 million in state taxes.
Rivers also pays a portion of its slot tax revenue to the city of Schenectady, Schenectady County and neighboring counties. The city and county each receive 5%, while neighboring counties share 10%. That will allow the city of Schenectady to deliver its fifth consecutive tax break to city residents (the city saw a slight increase last year due to COVID-19 impacts, and six months of COVID-19-related shutdowns reduced casino revenue).
Rivers Casino & Resort was named the number one tourist destination in the metropolitan area (Albani Business Review). Rivers is an economic engine that helped Schenectady County lead the metropolitan area in increased tourism spending, up 16% in 2017 and 10.5% in 2018.
Since its opening, Rivers has hosted more than 600 meetings, conferences, banquets and special events (concerts, dinner shows, MMA and more) at the event center, bringing thousands of people to Shenectady County.
Rivers was the first casino in New York State to open a Sportsbook for legal wagers on sporting events (July 16, 2019), bringing additional visitors and international attention to Schenectady. Since opening, the Rivers Sportsbook has consistently been ranked #1 in the state.
Rivers’ “Harbor Jam” summer concert series brings thousands of visitors to the Mohawk Harbor Amphitheater, which was voted #1 “Live Performance Venue” by Daily Gazette readers.
Rivers is a proud community partner, with its team members logging over 7,000 hours of volunteer time – all dedicated to charitable and community organizations throughout the Capital Region.
