Archive Desk Pro for VS Code: Archive Diff, Search, Size Breakdown, Edit & Repack

Diff two vsix/jar/zip/tar.gz releases, search text across every entry, see what's bloating an archive, and edit an entry then repack it safely.

Archive Desk Pro is a paid .vsix add-on for the free Archive Desk Lite extension. Install Lite from the Marketplace first, then Install from VSIX… for Pro. Lite’s Pro commands become real.

WHAT YOU GET

• Diff two archives — see which entries were added, removed, or changed (by content hash), then open any changed entry in VS Code’s side-by-side diff

• Search across every entry — plain text or re: regex, case-insensitive; results open at the matching line

• Size breakdown — uncompressed and compressed size and ratio per entry, plus totals by top-level folder

• Edit and repack — edit an entry, then repack; the new archive is verified before writing; overwrite keeps a .bak with one-click rollback

• Formats — zip/jar/vsix/war, tar, tar.gz/tgz (no 7z/rar/encrypted)

100% offline. Pure JS. No network requests, no telemetry. Works in Remote-SSH, WSL and Codespaces. VS Code 1.85+ on Windows, macOS, Linux.

INSTALL

1. Install Archive Desk Lite from the VS Code Marketplace (zecro.archive-desk).

2. Download the Pro .vsix from this purchase.

3. Extensions view → … → Install from VSIX… → reload if asked.
