This resource is aligned with UFLI Foundations Units 4–34 and is designed to support students as they build decoding skills, fluency, and reading accuracy. It helps teachers monitor students’ ability to apply phonics skills learned during explicit instruction.

Each passage includes a cold read and a hot read to track student growth in fluency, accuracy, and expression over time. The cold read is used as an initial assessment, while the hot read allows students to reread the same text to demonstrate improvement and increased automaticity.

Comprehension questions follow each passage to check understanding and encourage deeper thinking about the text.

This resource also includes Elkonin boxes to support phonemic awareness instruction. These boxes help students segment and blend sounds in words, strengthening decoding strategies and word analysis skills.
