Who it's for

First-time self-publishers in the UK or the US who want the whole process in one place, in the order they will need it: planning, finishing and editing the manuscript, permissions, interior and cover files, ISBNs, publishing on KDP and IngramSpark, and launch. Also useful if you are publishing someone else's work, such as a relative's memoir.

Who it's not for

It is not a creative-writing course on starting a book from scratch, and it does not cover finding a literary agent or a traditional publisher. It does not teach any design or layout software step by step, or advanced advertising and social media strategy. If you only need help with one stage, the courses are also sold separately. It is not legal, tax or financial advice.

Common questions

What's a good step-by-step guide to self-publishing in the UK?

Look for one that covers UK rules as well as US ones, and follows the stages in order: planning, editing, permissions, files, cover, ISBNs, uploading and launch. This series takes those stages one course at a time, with UK and US rules side by side and facts checked on the official websites on 27 October 2026.

What are the steps to self-publish a book?

Broadly: plan the book and your publishing route, finish and edit the manuscript, clear any permissions, prepare the interior and ebook files, make the cover, sort out ISBNs and book details, publish on KDP and/or IngramSpark, then launch and look after the book. The ten courses follow that order.

Should I use KDP or IngramSpark, or both?

KDP sells your book on Amazon. IngramSpark lists a print book in Ingram's catalogue so that bookshops, libraries and other retailers can order it. Many authors use both: use the same ISBN for the same paperback on each, and do not tick KDP's Expanded Distribution for that book. Courses 1, 8 and 9 cover the choice and both set-ups.

Do I need an ISBN to self-publish a book in the UK?

Not for a Kindle ebook on Amazon: KDP says an ISBN is not required. KDP paperbacks and hardbacks need one, which can be free from KDP or your own. In the UK you buy your own from Nielsen, the UK ISBN Agency; on 27 October 2026 Nielsen listed 1 ISBN at £93 or 10 for £174, including VAT. Course 7 explains the choice.

What's the difference between the bundle and buying the courses one at a time?

The content is the same: the ten PDF guides and their printable handouts, exactly as sold individually. The bundle costs £54.99 instead of £86.90 for all ten bought separately.

What do I get, and how do I get it?

Ten A4 PDF guides (342 pages in total) to read on screen or print, including 44 printable handouts such as a launch calendar, a metadata sheet and checklists for each stage. You can download all ten straight after purchase, and the receipt email has a download link.
