Designed as part of a series to increase your knitting skills, this pattern uses a simple stocking stitch background to showcase some beautiful beads. The pattern requires just 50g of DK yarn, making it a perfect stashbuster. The fabric is knit at a loose gauge for excellent drape, the beads are added as you go – no need to pre-string.

Yarn: 50 g aran weight yarn, approximately 180 m per 100 g.
Shown in: Drops Lima; 65% wool, 35% alpaca; 92 m / 98 yds per 50 g; colourway 0701.
Needles: 5.5 mm / US 9 for working in the round on a medium circumference, 40 cm / 16” circular suggested.
Notions: Tapestry needle; crochet hook (for beading, 1.5 mm suggested); 88 beads to suit yarn, sample uses 32/0 beads in brushed mixed copper, stitch marker.
Skills: Cable cast on, working in the round, knit, purl, adding beads (instructions given), cast off, weaving in ends, blocking.
Gauge: 16 stitches and 28 rnds over 10 cm / 4” in stocking stitch after blocking. Gauge is not critical for this project, but different gauges will affect the finished size and yarn required.
Sizing: The cowl has a circumference of 53 cm / 21 ¼” and a depth of 13.5 cm / 5 ½”. Resizing instructions are included.
