This is a modern take on a ribbed beanie inspired by Jacques-Yves Cousteau. It is knit from the top down. You will start by using magic loop and a closed cast-on, so there is absolutely no seaming.

This hat is designed to have a folded brim for extra warmth around your ears. It fits a wide range of head sizes because of the stretchy nature of the ribbed fabric.

Red hat sample knit in Ampersand Fibers Jenson DK ‘Vermillion 03,’ size 2. Blue hat sample knit in Less Traveled Yarn Arcadia DK ‘Cosmic Chocolate,’ size 3. Dark blue hat sample knit in Kelbourne Woolens Scout ‘Navy,’ size 2. I like using non-superwash yarns for these hats, because of the memory of the wool, but feel free to use superwash (just know that it may stretch even more).
