I named this generously sized shawl after North Point, home of the Animal Flower Cave in St Lucy: Barbados’ most northern parish. Inspiration came from the torrents of the Atlantic Ocean that roll over the rocky shelf-like structures below
the caves.
The wrap begins with a provisional crochet cast on. After that, there are vertical eyelet-defined columns of rib that, like the sea, change into diagonal waves that tumble across the centre of the design before soothing verticals restore calm once
again.
The lace and rib shawl consists of two pieces worked flat in an Aran weight yarn that are grafted together at the centre. Adding the i-cord cast ons and tubular side edges gives it a subtle, professional finish.
However you describe it: shawl, stole or wrap North Point isn’t your typical heirloom lace but a statement
piece of knitwear that will elevate any outfit.
