A military installation called Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune surrounds the New River tidal estuary and borders the Atlantic Ocean. For amphibious and ground training, the 156,000-acre area offers a variety of pine forests, tranquil river beaches, and miles of coastline. The 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, as well as numerous additional combat units and support commands, are all stationed at Camp Lejeune.
