The Bubble Lights | A Hearthside Study

An 11-page individual Bible study about changed purpose, fragile vessels, and the grace of glowing differently.

They don’t bubble.

They don’t perform the task they were made for.

But they glow.

The Bubble Lights begins with old-fashioned Christmas lights passed along by friends of my parents who were downsizing. When the lights no longer worked, I tucked them into an antique glass jar and wound twinkle lights around them. From their quiet glow comes a deeper question—have we confused a changed role, plan, or ability with diminished worth?

Rooted in 2 Corinthians 4:6–7 and Isaiah 42:3, this Hearthside Study considers God’s treasure in fragile earthen vessels and His gentleness toward what is bruised or faintly burning. It explores quiet second purposes, the grief of what has changed, and the grace that may remain—without requiring every loss to become useful or every life to function as it did before.

Inside the 11-page designed PDF, you’ll find the original The Bubble Lights essay, Scripture readings and context, eight guided study and reflection questions, personal reflection prompts, a closing prayer and application, and space for notes. The study can be worked through quietly on your own or shared informally with others around a table.
