Growth > Mastery Book List
If your goal for your child is to quickly gain facts, confidence and familiarity reading for mastery might be the way to go. These are the kinds of books that your child can readily understand everything presented in the book. Nothing will be outside their reach or go unnoticed if they're reading carefully. Another way to think about it is books that are considered at their level. Reading for mastery will cause your child to GAIN but not necessarily GROW.
Growth books are going to be above their "level", maybe even by a lot. Reading for growth is about being challenged, not about mastering everything the book has to offer. When we read growth books vocabulary explodes, attention and focus improve, our capacity to understand longer passages with greater complexity increases. In my own children I've seen internal growth like showing greater perseverance in hard situations and prayers taking on more depth.
Both reading for mastery and reading for growth have a place in a child's education. They serve different goals. This book list is for when you want to choose growth. I hope you find it helpful.
