It was a Saturday morning and Mia woke up early, stretching with a yawn. Her boyfriend Logan slept soundly beside her, snoring softly. A mischievous grin spread across her face as an idea formed. Flicking through apps on her phone, she found the one she was looking for - "Shrink-o-Matic". With a few taps, a pulsing light emanated from the screen and engulfed Logan's slumbering form. He shrank down rapidly until he was no larger than a cricket, lying on the bed.
Mia giggled and gently scooped up the tiny Logan. "Well good morning, you little bug!" she cooed. Logan waved his miniscule arms and legs in a panic. "Don't worry baby, I'll take good care of you." She carried him through to the living room, admiring her cute toy boyfriend.
Just then, the front door swung open. "Mia? You home, sweetie?" called a woman's voice. Mia glanced down at her, realizing her mother Brenda was due to visit today. "Uh, yeah mom, I'm in here!"
Brenda waddled into the living room, her massive BBW frame swaying with each step. Her skirt was a bit too short for a woman her size and age, the hem riding up to reveal a glimpse of her thick thighs above her knee-high socks. She plopped down on the couch with a groan, her plush rump and jiggling belly flesh overflowing the cushions.
"Hi honey! Sorry I'm late," Brenda said, patting her wild hairdo which threatened to topple over at any moment. "Had to stop for a donut...or three." She chuckled at her own inane joke, her many chins wobbling.
Mia just smiled weakly. She quickly eased Logan behind a couch cushion, hoping he'd be safe there. "No worries mom, glad you could make it over."
As Brenda chattered away about her usual goings-on, Mia tried to tune her out, peeking every so often to check on her secret passenger. Logan looked uncomfortable scrunched in the tight space, but Mia couldn't risk rescuing him with her mother right there.
Suddenly Brenda shifted her girthy weight and swung her feet up onto the coffee table, knocking over a vase in the process. The ceramic shards skittered across the carpet. "Oh shoot! Clumsy me," she giggled, not even bothering to get up and clean the mess.
Mia cringed, knowing full well her mom had no problem leaving things for her to deal with later. "It's fine mom," she sighed, trudging to the kitchen to grab a broom.
Brenda continued prattling on as Mia swept up the pieces. "I really need to diet, I'm getting so big and blubbery..." she said, poking her jiggling belly. Mia kept her thoughts to herself. It wasn't like it was the first time her mother had mentioned wanting to lose weight. Still, the evidence of her failed intentions jiggled before Mia's eyes.
As Mia finished tidying up the mess, Brenda rolled off the couch with a grunt. "Well, I should probably get going..." she said. But in her effort to stand, her foot came down right on top of where the tiny Logan had been hiding.
"MOM! No! Wait!" Mia cried, dropping the broom and rushing over. But it was too late. Under the crushing grip of Brenda's wooden clog heel, Logan let out an agonized squeal. His tiny body was quickly reduced to a smear of blood and pulp, gone in an instant. Brenda looked down in confusion at the sticky red spot now staining the sole of her shoe.
"What's wrong honey? You look like you've seen a ghost," she said, noticing Mia's ashen face and the broom clattering to the floor.
"I...I..." Mia couldn't find the words to say. She pointed a shaky finger at the floor, at the miniscule remains of her boyfriend. "Logan...Mom you...you..."
Brenda followed her gaze and spotted the bloody smear. "Oh! That? I thought that was just some ketchup or something. Honestly Mee, you need to work on keeping this place cleaner. I'm starting to worry about your mental health, living in such squalor."
Mia felt her gorge rise at her mother's callous disregard for what she'd just done. She turned away, shoulders shaking with suppressed sobs and rage. "I need you to leave. Now," she managed to choke out between hitching breaths.
"What's gotten into you, young lady? I come all this way to visit and this is the thanks I get?" Brenda huffed, finally standing all the way up. The motion caused her skirt to ride up fully into her undies, exposing the entire backs of her meaty thighs.
Mia couldn't help but stare at her mother's bulldozing backside as she waddled to the door, the sight of so much flesh eclipsing her earlier distress. That and the fact that she'd just lost Logan forever to her mother's carelessness.
"Fine, I can take a hint," Brenda grumbled, heaving herself out to the car. Mia watched her go, a sense of detachment washing over her. Logan was gone. Her mother had killed him without even realizing it. She looked down at the bloodstain on the carpet and felt a bubble of hysterical laughter rising in her throat. This was her life now.
