When you're navigating the SEN system, knowing what to say is half the battle. Knowing how to put it in writing — formally, clearly, without accidentally closing a door — is the other half.

I built these templates because I spent years writing letters I wasn't sure were right. Too apologetic. Too emotional. Phrases my daughter's SENCO told me later had made things harder, not easier. I wish someone had handed me a starting point.

This bundle gives you five letters, ready to personalise and send.

What's included:

1. Requesting an OT Sensory Assessment

For when your child needs a formal occupational therapy assessment and you need to ask the school, GP, or SENCO in writing. Covers the referral request and the reason for it, without oversharing.

2. Requesting an EHCP Needs Assessment

The letter that starts the statutory process. Sets out your request clearly, references your child's needs, and uses the language the local authority expects to see.

3. Requesting Reasonable Adjustments (Sensory, in School)

For when you've had the conversations and nothing has changed. A calm, professional letter asking the school to make specific sensory adjustments — seating, noise, uniform, transitions, whatever applies to your child.

4. Information for a Teacher Before Parents' Evening

Not a complaint letter. A proactive one. Sets out what your child needs their teacher to understand before you sit down together, so the conversation is more useful for everyone.

5. Formal Complaint / Escalation Letter

For when the school or local authority has not followed through, and you need to put something on record. Firm, clear, and written to be taken seriously.

What format do you get?

Each letter comes as an editable DOCX file — open it in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice, replace the placeholders in square brackets with your own details, and send. Personalising each one takes minutes, not hours.

A note on these letters

These are neutral, standard templates written in plain UK English. They're a starting point, not legal advice. If your situation is complex or you're heading toward tribunal, IPSEA and SOS!SEN both offer free casework support and are worth contacting directly.

I'm a SEN parent, not a solicitor — but I've written, sent, and revised enough of these letters over the years that I know what tends to work and what tends to land badly. These templates reflect that.

Instant download. No subscription. Yours to keep.
