"Soul Calibur: The Tales of Two Souls" (AP/IB Creative Writing)
This advanced creative writing unit transforms your classroom into a collaborative world-building studio inspired by the Soul Calibur video game franchise. Students will work together to create a shared historical-fantasy universe centered on two mythical swords—one holy, one cursed—and then individually write novel-length stories (10+ chapters, 3,000–5,000 words per chapter) following their own original characters' journeys through this world. The unit emphasizes professional collaboration, role-specific responsibility, historical research, character-driven narrative, shared world-building, and the translation of gaming mechanics into literary structure. Students will be assigned specialized roles (Character Designers, Lore Masters, Plotters, Project Managers, Writers, Researchers, Editors, and Marketing professionals) and work together to produce a cohesive collection of interconnected novels.
