The story of the Cannizzaro surname: the two possible origins, from Catalan knights to a hamlet by the sea, the barons and the notary of Catania in 17th-century records, the chemist sentenced to death who became one of the fathers of modern chemistry, the poet who twice asked for the hand of Victor Hugo's daughter, the map of the Cannizzaro families in Italy and the countries they reached, and five Cannizzaros who left their mark.
