Designed in 1859 by the versatile architect Josep Oriol Bernadet (the Lighthouse of Empordà, 1811 – 1860), who died shortly after. However, the works did not begin until 1885, directed by Josep Artigas and Elies Rogent and it was not fully operational until 1915.
