Death and Deity (3rd edition, 2024)
Written during a radical shift from the streets of Toronto, Canada to travelling to live, work, and travel across the Indonesian archipelago, these journal entries and short stories are a snapshot of willingly dousing routine in gasoline and lighting a match. Being thrust into a culture so far removed from the fast-food bullshit of North America, you really get to experience how the rest of the world (doesn’t) work the way your neighbours have lied to you about. Being isolated from the spoiled little children of the West gives your brain time to fold in upon itself and work through a lot of fucked up shit. This book is a small glimpse into a head-trip resulting from ignoring the comfort zone, every brainwashed instinct to remain in the strip mall that is Noth America, and go explore. It was good, it was bad, it was mind-blowing, but most of all, it was a fucking adventure.
