Investigating Motion: Speed, Velocity, and Acceleration Project (7th Grade)
Introduction
Transportation systems rely on efficient movement to move people and goods from one place to another. Scientists and engineers collect and analyze motion data to compare routes and improve travel efficiency. In this project, you will investigate the motion of three vehicles by graphs to determine which route provided the most efficient trip.
Standards Alignment
Texas TEKS (New Standards):
· 7.6A – Identify and describe different types of motion, including linear, circular, and oscillating motion.
· 7.6B – Calculate average speed using distance and time measurements.
· 7.6C – Investigate and describe the relationship among speed, velocity, and acceleration.
· 7.6D – Interpret and analyze graphical representations of motion, including distance-time graphs.
NGSS (Middle School Physical Science):
· MS-PS2-2 – Plan an investigation to provide evidence that changes in an object's motion depend on the forces acting on the object.
· PS2.A – Forces and Motion
