In this Winter Mittens Craft and Write, students follow a tutorial to make a winter mitten craft, then write about it. The craft comes with various patterns and elements to cut and glue, so each student can add their own artist flavor and make a unique mitten inspired by winter. The craft style is inspired by the Ms Artastic YouTube Channel.

After the craft, students complete fiction or non-fiction writing inspired by what they made, using different types of writing paper, writing prompts or blank pages, and finish with coloring, reflection and a 3 Stars and a Wish. With adaptable templates, it suits grades 1 to 5.

HOW TO USE IT

Photocopy the craft elements and put a few out at each table so students can choose the pieces they want. Save the unused pieces with the lesson plan for next year, for less prep and less waste. Use the step-by-step slides to guide the craft, then move into the writing pages that best fit your students.

The resource connects art and literacy: students practice drawing and crafting, then plan and write about what they created, building writing skills alongside creativity.
