The Butterfly Lovers – Sheng Concerto

This recording presents a symphonic adaptation of the beloved Chinese classical masterpiece The Butterfly Lovers by Ho Zhan-Hao and Chen Gang (何占豪 陈鋼《梁祝》笙協奏曲), reimagined for sheng solo and full philharmonic orchestra.

In collaboration with renowned Sheng Maestro Michael Lee (李志群), The Illumine Symphony Orchestra was honoured to serve as the accompanying orchestra for his solo recital, “Sensual & Romantic – Sheng Concert”, held at the Singapore Conference Hall on 7 October 2018.

This recording was captured during the final rehearsal prior to the concert, preserving the raw emotion and musical intimacy of a live performance environment. Blending traditional Chinese musical heritage with rich symphonic orchestration, this concerto brings renewed depth and expressive power to one of the world’s most enduring love stories.
