Freedom - Single

Freedom is a funky Guitar, Bass driven Pop/Rock song.

Freedom has an interesting background as the original demo was written and recorded by a school friend, Alan Brown, AKA, AJ. AJ and his late mum, Carol Brown wrote this song together back in the late 1980’s. AJ started out as the vocalist for a school Pop/Rock band with Da-Ran - Guitar, Jason Mackay - Bass, Kelley Lever - Drums and Jason Taylor - Keys. AJ’s mum Carol was always willing to give up her living room for the band to thrash out songs like “Do You Love Me” by Brian Poole & The Tremeloes, “Biko” by Peter Gabriel, “Twist & Shout” by The Beatles and a few other greats. Goodness only knows what the neighbour thought but the band recollect it being very very loud. 😬

Da-Ran was impressed with the original demo of Freedom and he always wanted to record his own version as a tribute to Carol for the help she offered back in those early days. This, albeit many years later, is his version. .

Interestingly, the original demo vocalist, Darren Milne was noticed by Da-Ran’s band - Above & Beyond - after listening to his vocal on the demo and he was subsequently recruited. Above & Beyond went on to catch the eyes (and ears) of music industry producers and were then privileged to play support to many top bands like East 17, Eternal, D-Ream, Kenny Thomas, Let Loose, Sybil, Worlds Apart and many others.

AJ’s career in music didn’t stop there either. He progressed to become one of the biggest names as a Disc Jockey in the North West of England and continued to write great songs for other artists. Please see https://www.facebook.com/AJsDiscoThePartyExperts/ for more information.
