The world is ending. Read something fucking good.

Welcome to IDIOT, an independent magazine for people who take ideas seriously and themselves considerably less so.

We publish sharp essays, cultural criticism, and literary arguments mainly about classic literature. Our founding issue, DOOMSDAY, is about endings.

Civilizations get the grand spectacle. The rest of us get obsession, bad marriages, beautiful lies, and the slow realization that the charming man in the room might be the whole fucking problem.

Inside, we investigate Nick Carraway’s suspiciously devoted gaze, put Lord Henry in the defendant’s chair, follow Jonathan Harker into Dracula’s considerable red flags, and ask who’s afraid of Isabella in Wuthering Heights. Frankenstein, Anna Karenina, and the fuck-ass beauty of Art Deco also join the proceedings. Nobody is here to behave.

We believe criticism can be rigorous without being bloodless, funny without being stupid, and accessible without assuming the reader is. We pay our contributors because “exposure” is a particularly irritating thing to put in an invoice.

Twenty-one pages of beautiful design, unruly intelligence, and arguments you’re welcome to have with us.

Buy the issue. Read the room. Be IDIOT.
