Omela sweater dress

I designed this dress picturing myself in a cozy cottage, cuddled near the fireplace, wearing nothing but this light cloud over my pjs. Had I picked a slightly different cc colour, maybe red, it would have been as Christmasy as they come. The name Omela means “mistletoe” in Ukrainian and Russian, bringing us yet again back to the festive season.

  • The pattern is written for nine sizes 1 [2, 3, 4, 5] [6, 7, 8, 9] to fit 74 [84, 94, 104, 114] [124, 134, 144, 154] cm // 29 [33, 37, 41, 45] [49, 53, 57, 61] in bust circumference with ca. 16-20 cm (6.25-7.75 in) of positive ease and a finished bust circumference of ca. 90 [100, 110, 122, 132] [142, 154, 164, 176] cm // 35.5 [39.25, 43.25, 48, 52] [56, 60.75, 64.5, 69.25] in.
  • The sample is shown in size 2 on a 160 cm (5.3 ft) tall model with ca. 84–66–94 cm (33–26–39 in) body measurements. For more of the finished garment measurements, please refer to the schematic.

Yarn
  • MC: ca. 110 [120, 130, 145, 160] [175, 190, 200, 215] g of Lamana Milano, 90% superfine merino and 10% cashmere with 180 m (197 yds) in 25 g
  • held together with 2 strands and ca. 132 [144, 156, 174, 192] [210, 228, 240, 258] g of Lamana Premia, 60% super kid mohair and 40% silk with 300 m (328 yds) in 25 g, shown in shades 48M and 48 respectively;
  • with an estimated meterage//yardage for each of the MC yarns of ca. 792 m // 866 yds [864//945, 936//1024, 1044//1142, 1152//1260] [1260//1378, 1368//1496, 1440//1575, 1548//1693]
  • or 5 [5, 6, 6, 7] [7, 8, 8, 9] balls of Milano and

Needles and notions
  • 4.0 mm (US 6) circular needles with ca. 60–100 cm (24–40 in) cables;
  • spare cables, spare circular needles or scrap yarn to keep stitches on hold;
  • a few stitch markers;
  • a tapestry needle or a crochet hook to weave in the ends.

Gauge
  • 20 sts & 28 rnds in 10 cm (4 in) measured over stockinette worked in the round on 4.0 mm (US 6) needles after blocking;
  • 22 sts & 24 rnds in 10 cm (4 in) measured over colourwork worked in the round on 4.5 mm (US 7) needles after blocking.
Adjust the needle sizes if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
