The Struggle of the Second Birth

What happens after the new birth, when old habits and new convictions begin to pull in different directions? In The Struggle of the Second Birth, Evangelist W.T. Elliott connects Jesus’ teaching in John 3 with the response preached in Acts 2: repentance, baptism in Jesus’ name and the gift of the Holy Ghost.

He then addresses the continuing work of learning to live for God. Using Jacob and Esau, Isaac and Ishmael, and the contrast between oil and water, he illustrates the conflict between the carnal nature and spiritual life. His challenge is to nourish the right desires and allow the Holy Ghost to direct daily conduct.

The recording includes candid recollections of struggles during his early Christian life. Its central encouragement is that struggle need not mean defeat: believers can keep submitting, keep growing and rise again after failure.
