I bought my first deck of Tarot cards over 20 years ago.

Bursting with excitement, I cracked open the box, looked at the cards, and…drew a total blank. The cards were filled with images and symbols, but apart from a few cards, none of them made any sense to me. I opened up the Little White Book {which is the short guidebook that comes with most Tarot decks}, and the brief two-line meanings had me even more perplexed. I looked at the card, read the meaning, and wondered how it all worked together.

It took a long time and a lot of reading and learning before the Tarot started making some sense to me. But it wasn’t until I found some wonderful teachers who demystified the Tarot that I figured out how to read the cards more intuitively. Because here’s the secret: learning 78 card meanings by heart is impossible, and does not make for a good tarot reading. You need to connect with the cards, understand their language, and make it yours to start to really unpack what the cards are telling you.
