Recovering Warner - Chapter One: My Escape

Tim is straight to the point in his no nonsense delivery of telling you how you feel. Tim is a godsend compared to Jack keroac. Very interesting read that keeps you pulled in as he tells his story.

Tim uses every word in this chapter with purpose to paint a raw and emotional picture of a comedian giving everything he has while fighting a brutal disease: addiction. Anyone who is trying to achieve success, or who is a comedy fan should read this. It shows not only how hard it is to go after what you want, but also how hard it is to be a human being. Tim shows his disappointment in himself while also acknowledging the truth in that he wants to be a better person, comedian, and community member. After reading, I watched Tim’s comedy. It’s even more clear that Tim’s purpose in life is not only making people laugh, but inspiring them to be their best self, even throughout the ugly battles life gives us. I can’t wait to read the rest of the book, and I’m sure Tim Warner will become a name in the comedy world many people will know soon.

An excellent read for anyone considering the pursuit of stand-up comedy in the year 2025 and beyond in the United States. There is no rags to riches plot, no fairytale ending, and not even a happily ever after. The unrelenting pursuit of truth does not always yield pleasant results. Warner synthesizes and distills that truth into a digestible recounting of his life, aspirations, and flaws through a beat style format covering over a decade of experience performing stand-up comedy. In an era of quick fixes, dopamine hits, and Instagram comedy crowd work reels, maybe the realest thing is Tim’s story as he tells it. Whether you agree or disagree with his political and cultural analysis infused through his joke-telling, you must without a doubt recognize his intense and unwavering passion and true love for the comedic art form. Maybe the ultimate happily ever after, was the journey of introspection and self-discovery that proves who you really are.

Tim’s life story is something I want to learn and know more about. He talks about things that people are too afraid to say out loud. His material is raw and I can respect that. When I read it, feels like I can picture the scene in my head…sort of like an 80’s type movie narrated by the guy from Stand by Me. Worth the read!

I don’t leave negative reviews even when the restaurant sucks, but occasionally I’ll pump a businesses services on Yelp if they go above and beyond. That’s how I felt about this book. Intelligent vocabulary, honest, insightful and extremely introspective journey from the mind to the mic. I’m an addict, a comedy fan and avid reader, so this book is right up my alley, but not since Greenlights (MM) have I enjoyed a first person narrator so much. Looking forward to purchasing Chapter 2.
