I have found pictures to be the best stimuli for writing, especially pictures that children can colour and have ownership of.

With a picture, a child can visualise and see what is happening. This will provide opportunities for them to imagine, predict and innovate their own stories. I have created colouring sheets for traditional stories where children can colour the pictures, talk about the scene and rewrite the story in their own words using the vocabulary provided.
