Figurative Language and Literary Devices Lab
Figurative Language and Literary Devices Lab is a virtual reading and writing lab for grades 3–12. Students sort literal and figurative sentences, tag devices in context, and work out what idioms and figurative phrases really mean. In the younger versions they build similes and metaphors from word tiles, and every version asks how a device shapes meaning or tone. The upper versions draw on public-domain poems and prose, and every version ends in a printable lab report.
Skills: Similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, idioms, onomatopoeia, connotation, irony, extended metaphor, analyzing a device's effect on meaning and tone.
Inside: 5 stations, each with a prediction, a hands-on activity, a log or data table that fills in as students work and a check question. Students finish with a printable lab report (print or save as PDF). The Teacher Notes include the standards, a full answer key and a reset button for shared devices.
