The United Fauna Ship (UFS) Barnacle "Barney" is a blue whale armored with a salvaged World War II-era U-boat hull, turning whaling ships into the hunted instead of the hunters. As the largest animal to ever exist on Earth, he finds it darkly amusing that he needs steel plating to survive encounters with a species one-millionth his size. His double hull deflects harpoons with ease and makes short work of any vessel's soft underbelly, a trick he learned from studying the same naval warfare humans used to nearly wipe out his kind. To Barnacle, every whaler is just another Ahab who confused obsession with dominion, and he is happy to remind them how that story actually ends.
