VOLUME THREE
There is an Open Door for Some
(Who goes to Heaven?)
In Volume One we did a study on who goes to Heaven; Only Christians? And we looked at what Jesus has to say about that.
In Volume Two we discussed if faith alone will get you into Heaven and what ‘evil in the sight of the Lord’ (mentioned 50+ times in the Bible) means. We also mention all the keys that will be discussed in this nine volume series of ‘Who Goes to Heaven.’
In this Volume (Three) we discover that there is an open door for some of us. And we’ll see who qualifies to’ breeze’ through this open door.
A Message from him that has the Key of David
Believe it or not, for some of us there is an open door.
This message comes from him that has the key of David.
Key of David
And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write;
These things saith he that is holy, he that is true,
he that hath the Key of David,
he that openeth, and no man shutteth;
and shutteth, and no man openeth;
He that hath the Key of David sounds like someone with authority; ‘he that openeth, and no man shutteth;
and shutteth, and no man openeth.’
Prophet Isaiah mentioned a very similar key, when he said,
Key of the house of David
And the key of the house of David
will I lay upon his shoulder;
so he shall open, and none shall shut;
and he shall shut, and none shall open.
Prophet Isaiah was referring to servant Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah. Eliakim is a Hebrew name meaning “God sets up” or “God raises.” Eliakim was raised up by God to a higher position in life and described as a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.
Well that fits perfectly. The holder of the key of David has authority to deal with all matters related to the House of David and is like a father to those who were born in the house of David and those ‘who joined themselves to the Lord.’
An open door
What is the context for Revelation 3:7? Who has an open door?
This is an important message from the holder of the Key of David.
“I’ve set an open door before you, which no one can shut.’
The keyholder says that the people addressed below won’t need a key to get in. He’s opened the door before them.
This message is for those who won't give up and stick to Jesus’ commands and words no matter what.
It is for those of us who struggle to keep the faith because of persecution, opposition and lies from those around us who pretend to be knowledgeable but are not.
This message from the holder of the key of David guarantees an open door for those of us who keep going, despite being worn down, faint, tired and weary, those of us with ‘little strength’ left.
In Revelation 3:7, the church of Philadelphia is addressed by the one who is holy, true and has the key of David, who opens and no one can shut and shuts and no one can open.
Here is my Aussie translation of what is said in Revelation 3:7-13,
I know your works.
“I know your works. Guess what? Works matter. They’re noted.
I’ve set an open door before you, which no one can shut because I know that you have little strength. And yet, even with this little strength, you stuck to my words and did not deny my name.
There are some who claim to be Jews but instead are from the synagogue of Satan, they are liars. (who could they be?)
I will make these liars come and bow down before your feet and I will make them understand that I have loved you.
I know that you obeyed my command to persevere and patiently obeyed me despite the persecution (TLB), and because of this I also will keep you from the hour of testing that is coming upon the whole world, to test those who live on the earth.
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one can take away your crown.
Those who hang in there and overcome and stay strong in the faith, don’t give up, no matter what happens (NIRV), those I will make a pillar in the temple of my God and he will never go out of this temple. And I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God (the new Jerusalem which comes down out of heaven from my God) as well as my own new name.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.
And below I quote Revelation 3:7-13
from The Mounce Reverse Interlinear New Testament (MOUNCE).
I know your works… you kept my words
An open door… hold on… i'm coming soon
